A collection of rare and interesting gems from April’s back catalogue!

One of April’s earliest successes came at the tender age of 15 with “The Tricks Of The Trade”. A clip from US TV of that has just popped up on a 1952 Frank Fontaine TV Show clip on YouTube.  It’s also exclusively on our earlier compilation of her recordings for Imperial and RCA-Victor Teach Me, Tiger1 HRKCD 8291

This collection of some two dozen sizzlers that she made for Society and other indy labels of the time makes it quite clear why she got into so much trouble with radio stations who were not prepared to incur the wrath of their starch-collared listeners! The word “suggestive” doesn’t even begin to approach it! Because of many of the tracks’ scarcity, it’s rewarding listening to them today. Six decades on, and we’re all “in the know” now. Don’t scoff; this is probably a social document in its own right! With our usual explanatory notes – this time by family friend, Jim Chaffin - this is the perfect accompaniment to a cosy late night get-together…
